Janet's WEB
By 2010, 1 million women will own a small business in Canada
Women owned businesses are growing 60 percent faster than those run by men. Women are choosing to create independant incomes and raising the bar in innovation, creativity and success. Women have the ability and are creating the ability to be able to continue their household responsibilities, but open the avenue to entrepreneurship and business. 60 percent of self-employed women are "lifestylers" - business owners who chose self-employment specifically to balance the demands of work and family. 70 percent of Canadian business women are married and nearly a third of them have children under the age of 12. Statistics for men in the "lifestylers" category are neglible.
Women are born multi-taskers. The ability to over-achieve is a given. Women are amazing beings with amazing capabilities. We put everything we have into each task that is given to us and we always manage to top that and then some. Our logistical capabilities allow us to be efficient and effectively accomplish tasks. We have the ability to think outside of the box and devise alternative solutions when faced with a road block. Nothing gets in our way, as long as we maintain our focus.
Women have a unique way of networking. We are emotional beings and therefore, the ability to attach and create relationships comes naturally to us. Comradry is duly noted and sisterhood is created. How else is the following statistic possible?
We can be successful. We have force in numbers. We can help each other every step of the way. While women owned and women led businesses provide 1.7 million jobs in Canada, compared to 1.5 million jobs provided by Canada's top 100 companies, and women generate approximately 40% of new start up businesses in Canada.
Why Janet's WEB?
As a young girl, do you remember reading Charlotte's Web? It is a classic novel radiating themes of friendship, love and caring. Charlotte, an unassuming little spider, is on a mission to save Wilbur, a poor runt that is destined for the dinner table. It is her ability to see the true being of Wilbur that the world comes to know that he is more than just a pig. She sees the best in him and she teaches him to nurture those characteristics and instills confidence and maturity in him. The story makes us laugh, it makes us cry, it brings us inspiration and makes us dig deep and find out who we are.
